Bali is a wonderful place to retire and a complicated place to get seriously ill. Almost nobody writes down both halves of that sentence.

This guide does. It is written from seventeen years of running healthcare operations here and thousands of coordinated cases a year: the ICU capacity numbers, the real price comparisons, the insurance situation for the over-65s, the medication supply problem, and the fact that managed care facilities do not exist on this island. A guide that told you Bali was straightforward would be more useful to us commercially and worth nothing to you. The retirees who do well here are the ones who understood the gaps before they arrived and planned around them. The ones who struggle are the ones who assumed it would sort itself out.

Most of what is in here costs nothing to act on. Get your bloodwork done. Find a GP while you are well. Check your prescriptions are actually available in Indonesia. Have the conversation with your family. You do not need us for any of that, and we would rather you did it than didn't.
